Wanda Parker
Wanda started doodling when she was 15, it was a way to deal with a lot of changes and things that she had no control over. Wanda started by taking inspiration from artist Bill Reid and his native thumbnail sketches. She was really drawn to the concept of how design is incorporated into his art to form different ideas of animals.
She has a love of all colours and it depends on her mood as to which colour her favourite is at any time. Fascinated as to how shapes fit together to merge into things like animals, plants, people, etc. she views different things as shapes within one. She enjoys using positive and negative space to create an image. Thus, creating the idea that an image is there in the observer’s eye. Which is one of the reasons that her art has geared more towards expressionism/abstract art.
Wanda believes that art is very subject to the observer, their emotions and views of the world. Her art is in a constant state of flux and has no set style as she like to use various materials and ideas when creating.
In the past, she has used many different mediums, including makeup. Many times, she gets an idea, and feels compelled to get out of her head. Sometimes it turns into something and, “Sometimes it’s a complete piece of garbage, but [her] soul will not be quiet until it has been purged from [her] mind.”
